"When you go to print remember our boss would like our corporate pantone colour (PMS 491) more brown but we would like it more purple"
- Studiospooky0
OH WOW. I would just hand my notice in right there. What can you possibly do to get out of that? its like a very sophisticated mindbomb disguised as a very stupid comment.

i dont know what color PMS 491 is. does that hinder my appreciation of the idiocy of this statement?
- marychain0
I'm not even sure what he's saying....there is a pantone color and the boss wants it to be one way.....and the client wants it another way.
Does he think you're David Copperfield?...or David Blaine (for the kids)

Reply directly: PMS colors cannot be altered without converting them to CMYK. Please make your mind up, will it be brown or purple?
Best regards,

just nod and go to press and make it look like you designed it.

make it blue... everyone knows blue is the color for 2008

What you need is a frame of reference. Can you send them a pack of crayons and ask them to courier over their preferred doodle colour and colour match that on press?
This seems like the sensible option.

We told them clearly that a PMS dictates what the colour actually looks like but that it will alter depending on the colour and characteristics of the paper its printed on. Since we aren't printing CMYK we are getting our printer to do a drawdown of the colour on the actual paper stock so they can see how it looks. I don't think they are crazy enough to actually use a different colour as this is a colour they use globally on their brand so they'd be nuts to mess with it.
hmmmmm.... but blue is kinda pretty in a 2008 kinda way

We had another reference that it should be kindof "wine coloured" I'm pushing to have some sample wine sent over...
- 7340
good call. some wines are white... you should definitely get a sample of the specific wine. also make sure it tastes like PMS 491

do the thing I always do in these situations; send it to both the parties concerned exactly the way they last saw it and tell them both separately that you have fulfilled their request.
then wait for the inevitable "great! that looks much better :)" emails.
I swear to God, 9 times out of 10...

This hasn't been updated in a while but basically it's what you're saying...

The more important a colour is to the brand, the more likely a client will want to change it.

"It's intentional" ?
