Anyone ever work with head hunters? I've never used one myself but have a couple friends in NY that do religiously.
I'm thinking about opening up a head hunting service in my own town (Jacksonville, FL) and wanted to know if anyone has any good or bad experiences with head hunters.
Also, any suggestions and thoughts for improvement. As a designer I have my own ideas on how to run things, but I'd love to get more feedback.

I never have, but they have contacted me before. They seem to not care much about who you are; just want to fill an a$$ in a seat. Don't be that guy.

this is an interesting take on the whole process.
i ran across a year ago or so....
- Thanks for the link, its funny. They got most of what I want to do down. Even down to the lower percentage rate.
At least I'm in a different market.leadtrum

sometimes being that ass that fills a seat is better than leftover ramen noodles

I really don't want to be that guy. Trust me. I have to believe that's there's a way to make money and help designers find jobs and careers.

i really dislike most of headhunters and recruiting agencies. have had bad experience with them many times. now i have direct contacts in many ad agencies so i bypass middlemen.

I think to your point, some people will honestly never need to use our services. There are those designers who actually go out and network and have their wits about them.
Some designers, especially ones who couldn't care less about networking still have a need.
But on the agency side, they're always going to need help because knowing who's out there and what are the relevant skill sets these days is an important service.
I can't tell you how many candidates we got at my previous agency for web designers where it was blazingly clear that they have no "web" or "design" experience at all.

oh woops to get back on point
i know many freelancers that would rather share their precious contacts than see people go the way of headhunters
