I bought an iMac 24 inch core 2 thingy and it is shite... but only have 1 gb of ram... is that why? it is a lot slower than my mac book pro, and i thought they'd be about the same.
- yes. i have the same setup with 4gb ram. it smokes. go to crucial.com and upgrade. will cost you 150 ish.kona
- benchtests of the 24" are actually faster than the fastest mbp. max the ram mime!kona
- Cool thanks... got 4 gb's for 85 quid********
- its my back up machine while my MBP ad a new screen fitted... was only away for a couple of days in the end!********

Just for clarity's sake, do you all agree that a 2.0 Ghz Mac-Mini with 2GB ram would be significantly and noticeably faster than my current computer:
Built in 2003
Intel Celeron 2.0Ghz
1.5 GB memory
Win2k
Non SATA drivesPretty sure I know the answer, just want to hear it from you...
- YES.
now just order it dude, the perfect comp. will never exist... ;)madirish - I honestly dont think the mini is going to giver you much performance upgrade, simply by the stats alone.mrdobolina

Yes mg33 but bear in mind mini comes with a 5400rpm laptop drive.
Some people say mini is certainly good enough for web work.. http://www.apple.com/pro/profile…

madirish,
I'm curious where it stacks up, give or take, in this chart:

LOL
"Tom's Hardware" is going to make your decision for you now??!? LOL
man, i have no clue where it lands in there. get one, plus stuff it full of RAM and try it out. if you don't like it, return it. i mean seriously, we are talking like $600 here- it's nothing really. all the time you have been deliberating this is unreal to me.
the perfect comp will not be there and for $600, i see no reason to try it. even if you have to pay a restocking fee, you are still in good shape.
- LOL.mg33
- the new macbook pros will be out by the time you decide********

hmmh, I'm reading the comments here which sound positive. But I'm temporarily working on a Mini 1.83 / 2Gigs of Ram / fast external HD and I think it sucks. I bought it while I sent my Pbook out for repair. Maybe the problem is that I'm running CS2, I dunno. But the beachball spins ALL the time. The waiting is getting on my nerves. I just took a Flash course and the instructor thought they were too slow too. And the class is running CS3. It's not unbearable but slightly annoying.

Josev CS2 is like that on intel. It's a miracle it works on intel at all, the wonder of Rosetta.
