    a.k.a. "Winning Eleven"

    What a shit game.

It's not that great. EA versions are way better in my opinion. Played EA's FIFA 08, pretty damn good.

  • detritus0

Why? At worst, it's better than ProEvo 6.

I've heard the PS3 version and online play generally are a bit glitchy, but multiplayer on one machine is more brilliant than it ever was.

    And I hate football.

  • detritus0

Hmph. Well, football game fans always appear to be divided on the ProEvo vs. FIFA debate, I'm not sure it's any different this version around.

    • Should've been a note to cosmo.detritus
    • ProEvo was just alrite. The controls were a little funky in my opinion.cosmo

Well, for one thing, it doesn't do 'exactly' what you tell your players to do - there's always this insanely annoying hesitation.

And the shooting. OMG. Unless you have absolutely perfect dosage, boom - it's way outside the farking stadium.

Have you played it much, Jox? I invariably tonked my shots into the stratosphere when I first started too - the trick is to ensure you literally tap the shoot button, unless you know what you're doing. It also helps if you stop taking your shots whilst running, which is another mistake I always make.

Not sure about your lag issue - My feelings are the exact opposite - sometimes I wonder whether I'm playing or the game is, with it 'preempting' exactly what I want to do each time. Not to say this is always successful though! :)

As I said, I'm not a footie fan - but I'm big into good games, and all the people I know who are the same or are massively into football think that ProEvo is the best thing since sliced bread. Heck - even I have bought the last 3 ones... if my real-world friends saw me defending it (and, by extension, all that is great and glorious about football) they'd take be taking the piss out of me.

ProEvo does need a bit of perseverance - but that's only because it has so much to offer and is such a more playable game than FIFA. imo, obviously - though I like to think of myself as impartial in this particular regard.

Actually I only just got it this wednesday, but I have taken a few weeks off so I've been playing quite exensively :)

I've tried just to tap it but the manual states that if you hold R2 when you've applied maximum force, it transfers it into "precision" instead of just a brutal kick.

Ah yes, the manual... which I've been reading like an idiot, there are SO many button combinations for every little thing - how could ANYONE remember all of them when you have to decide which one to use in a split second?

I know long pass, short pass, tackle and shoot straight up in the air. Haha.

Honestly, I wouldn't really bother with the manual 'til you feel comfortable just playing with all the basic commands. I don't think the practice area is quite as good as in previous versions, but if you want to learn some of the practical skills, go in there and play.

    My basic tips -
Learn to use the Square button to get another teammate to go to the ball (so you can 'control' two players at once) - learn to hold X when trying to get the ball off a player - learn when to run and not to (tapping and holding the run button both do different, useful things) - and then advance to Right Trigger, which appears to do fancy things in this new version. I've been playing for about 5 years, and that's fundamentally as far as I've got. Oh, and I guess you know to swap to the player nearest the button with your Left Shoulder button when you're not in possession?

  • jox0

Thanks mang! I didn't even realize there *was* a practise area! *runs off to TV

I know how to swap player.. and that's another thing, the auto-swap is behaving really strange too. It always changes to whoever is behind the opponent... running away!

And suppose I wanted to set up an entirely new team and hand-pick the best players from every team. How do I do that? I feel it's easier to play the better the players are (duh :)

I was entering a championship where I *thought* I would be able to change players, but it had to be through negotiations and they kept turning down my cheap offers, haha. Inspite of my awesome, pink shirts with "JAWKS" written on them.

Right, so I'm off to training then :) I'll see how it goes! Thanks!!
