I just have to say this...
Stop making video with Flash when it's not for the internet... Commercials, in-store/narrowcasting, other animations suck in general when made in Flash... Really frustrating when you have to work with that, or when you have to combine it with 'real video'... Just use a proper app to make proper video.

What are you talking about?

i think he's advising us to create video with After effect, combustion, lava, flame, etc
so he won't have to work his ass off to get the alpha in his video

"Stop making video with Flash when it's not for the internet"
Making video? Define "video"... do you mean, editing clips of video footage in Flash??
Or do you mean, making ANIMATIONS in Flash (NOT using video footage)?

When I posted this I had just received a crappy flash animation (exported as AVI), not the right size and it was very obvious that the guy who made it didn't really know anything about creating/exporting video for tv screens. So I'm talking about animations, motion graphics ment for other screens then the internet...
I really think that Flash is nog the right tool for it. I see it a lot and I always wonder why people don't take the time to get a bit more professional...

I dunno, a friend o mine works for an animation studio who do a lot of work for Cartoon Network. They use flash and after effects if they need it.
Think your issue may be with people who don't really know what they're doing as opposed to using flash. But I dunno, don't do broadcast so not sure.

I see. Well, I'd say it depends on the animation being created. But I agreed in principle, it's not what Flash is "meant" for as such... but that's not to say you can't do it, if you know what you're doing, like you say, with regard to correct export settings, (and also knowing not to use any actionscript!)
- Lot's of Actionscript controlled animation will export great.nosaj
- As an AVI? How?thismanslife
- Think that was a wee bit o sarcasm there...ian
- no sarcasm, you can export .movs that recognize scripted animation techniques and render it out accurately. It's limited, you can't have interaction obviouly, but works quite well.nosaj
- adshareit.com, prog will export all AS exactly how it should be, w/o missing a frame.fyoucher1

Yeah, I'm talking about people who don't know what they're doing, the video settings they should use, all the basics... I know Flash can be a good tool, as long it's not your main program... well. you know what i mean.

I know a guy who does some really wonderful retro style character animation. Smooth as silk. All in Flash.

Flash is one of those things, when you do it right it's beautiful. Do it poorly, and it sucks the fart out of your ass.

Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (one of my faves) does a lot of its animation in Flash and it looks fab. It's all about the talent of the animator, not the software features. I could buy someone a copy of Revas and I bet they could still produce crap animation.
- Actually this it the programme my friend worked on. They mostly use flash with tiny bits of AE.ian

why don't you just sent the file back w/a 'hahahahaha' as the subject line in the email?
if shit like that came to me... it'd be sent right back... if the client complained... I'd explain in detail how they hired a dolt who doesn't understand his technology.
Sounds like a case of G.I.G.O. - Garbage In... Garbage out. :(
