Is it worth it paying 60-something euros / year for Norton against a free app?
Share your experience, please. Pros and Cons. Thanks.

Never bought a anti virus app or had a virus on my computer, so I can't really guide you. But it might be worth shelling out some cash to protect yourself against it. If it cleans out HD, it might end up costing you a lot more than 60 something euros.
Be careful with the freeware.. It might end up being a virus itself.

yes, indeed. thx for that. I had AVG once in another computer and although I never had virus problems it was cramming with trojans. It has come to my knowledge that some virus are not detected by the free app (probably rumour, but how can you tell really?). I guess we need an Independent EU entity to rule this thing. To let one know. So I got this computer with pre-installed Norton... I think I will pay the 60 Eeews and see how that goes. I'll cut on cigars and peep-shows ;) ahah. * throws peace-pice at designerror.

ok, I'll be listening to opinions until sunset tomorrow. I would like to have definitive proof that Norton is worth paying for. It's not for the money - it's just to be/feel safe.

http://www.mcafee.com/ might be another option. A bit cheaper

^ cheaper indeed. but howcome?! doesn't it look odd to you that a service costs 60/yr under one brand and 15/yr on another? I mean, it looks odd, apart from branding. Not judging, but it looks odd.

Mcafee will get 5 new subs. for every new subs. Norton get with that price.

avast is the best for anti-virus IMHO. AVG has a crapy interface and I got trojans with it.
I have been using avast for 2-3 years now and it is great. Plus, it is free ;)

hey, thanks alla, that's interesting. I gather there's many options that I haven't explored quite right. Your input so far has been wonderful. Thank you! But It's almost 3 am here so I'm pretty worn out and I'm starting to crash like a mf windows ;) I'll be making a decision upon all the great input so far, tomorrow.
