    Here’s the deal....

I’ve been working as an in-house graphic designer/ marketing assistant for the past 2 ½ years. I’m ready to move on but don’t what to look for.

I’ve applied for positions that require the skills that I have but there’s always 1 or 2 things that I can’t do or don’t possess. Ex. ASP, AJAX, CGI scripting.

I am currently creating multiple microsites, have re-designed their intranet, and update my company’s website. I also create all of the marketing materials, invitations, banners, etc. etc...

Since I don’t have a lot of experience with server-side programming, I am looking for something to expand my web capabilities.

I graduated with a web degree so everything I learned about print I learned from this job.

I’m just struggling to find the right position -

The first thing to decide is, are you looking for a job as a graphic designer, interactive designer, or web developer? Sounds like you have done a little of both but IMO it is far better to focus on the skill you want to get good at and tailor your efforts towards that.

ASP, AJAX and CGI are web development skills, and I wouldn't apply for a design position that required those, as that's probably a company that expects you to do "everything," and probably doesn't have a good idea of design and what its role is. There should be more than enough real design jobs out there that are looking for actual design skills, along with maybe some HTML and CSS. Try applying for those, otherwise take the time to learn those dev skills if that is what you're interested in.

Thanks ukit. I've been looking for the past few months to no avail. I really would like to hone my dev skills. I think for now I look for a junior desinger position.
