this is a great example of unwanted brand loyalty:
one of the major supermarket chains in holland called Albert Heyn has this thing called a ‘bonus card’, that has a barcode on it for the person at the register to scan so you can get discounts on specific products.
now, a ton of people started to create their own bonus card by using this little application that, upon entering the number underneath a barcode, generates the appropriate barcode stripes. you can print these and it works when scanned.
this became a full fledged movement and just now has been officially forbidden by the supermarket, which is a real shame when you see the galleries dedicated to these little pieces of art :]
