I think someone here at NT previously mentioned how only more financially stable bands can pull off something like this.

Until Radiohead themselves actually come out with a figure, every other value should be treated as mere speculation, no matter how cleverly they think they did their surveying.

Well, i read on an italian Newspaper that they cashed something like 16 millions dollars.
16 million dollars that go straight into their pockets. No record labels involved.
And considering that if you're *very* lucky for each cd sold you cash 2 dollars (or even less) well, i think that is everything but a failure. And considering that making the album freely downloadable to people that would had ANYWAY downloaded illegally, they broke into this submerged market.Cashed poorly, well yes according to the actual Music market rules. But, fact is, Radiohead is playing a different game with different rules.

(Nov 16 07, 06:44)Yeah, I wish my excitement over the new album hadn't glossed over that minor fact. I definitely feel like I overpaid. Ho hum.

Even private torrent sites don't accept anything less than 192kbs, hah.
