So there seems to be a push towards a more robust mobile computing platform with the iPhone and Google's new thing. What are some of the other up and coming platforms? What do you think will last, what will be a fad?

i don't get this Q, man? i think the general goal should be an open platform model, who offers or will be is up for debate.
i see though for certain, an open standards plattform the only sustainable future.

ha, as far as I know thats true. I'm looking at this from the standpoint of what should I learn? What should we as designers get behind? Its kind of like Flash vs RAVE vs Silverlight. Designers voted and Flash is winning. I'm looking at the various mobile models and wondering which is the standout. Apple and Android both use Webkit so there's some convergence there but what about the native app model? We don't know apple's strategy yet but will it matter? Will Google take the lead? Is there a third (or more) option that is more viable? Is there enough overlap to dilute the issue?
I'm starting all this research and trying to answer these questions so I wanted to see if you guys had any opinions on the subject since as far as I'm concerned we as a group define a broad section of the design in technology market.
