Define 'best'?
I use Thunderbird, but then all I want my client to do is download email, allow me to set a couple of rules and ... well, that's it.

Thunderbird
both on my mac and PC, PC is where all my mail is downloaded. When I travel, I drop 1 file into my mac and all my mail goes with me.
Download the lightning plug in if you want a calendar

Thanks, haven't used thunderbird for a while, didn't like it before but that was a long time ago.

Thunderbird if it's only mail. I use it on mac too, but only because I can share mail and settings between OSX and Windows this way. TB kinda sucks on mac.

Microsoft Outlook...
email, contacts, calendar, task lists and if you've got a decent phone, will sync up nicely.

I would say outlook.
2003, only because I've been using it for 3 years.
upgrading to 2007 tomorrow, not looking forward to it. as far as marketing for it goes, its 2 steps back.
I read somewhere that Thunderbird is to go the same way as Firefox. So that might be one to watch.
