I've been to a lot of sites lately and noticed that only few have nice or new ways of displaying work. Same ol gallery here and there.
What are some of your favorites or the ones that made you smile lately?

the ones that don't have 'click throughs' and 'back links' to lists, are the easier. now it's up for the appearance and layout presentation to do the rest.
also The less unnecessary junk and image backgrounds, the best.sorry, I don't have any patience go go digg my links list, but just went to Rand's http://fluxism.com portfolio and I think it says it all on how it should be. mouse over and automatic image loading make it a lot easier for users to navigate easily.

I'm pretty baffled on Eatock left-nav right-pane theory still. I smiled a wee bit.

"easier for users to navigate easily."
redundant... but that's it. (easy X 2)

^ those are very interesting photos.
but it has always annoyed me a bit that designers/photographers always interpret images in a literal/ as-shown manner.
I think it lessens both the image and the text. it reduces the viewer's feeling to a given concept - limiting the suggestive power of images (which is all they have).

on a sidenote, kodap... Eatock and I have a difficult relationship, esp. for his claims.
but anyway, I forgot to mark my irony after the manner of rand.
//
the above doesn't make the photo experience less interesting, though.

anyway, the blame's on me. I've always expected to much about drawing/design/photography... arts in general...
Like a Revelation or something.
I guess that's what's you get for being baptized at birth.
You tend to think there is a secret.

U'r right witt, but without those captions I wouldn't figure out the meaning and purpose of much of the photos in there, I think that's why it made me stick to it about the last 20 minutes. For a general public view, I think it's ok, otherwise, a gallery/museum is the proper place for them to be shown.
this is not to underestimate the "artistic" value that so many have, but to put them in the context of audience/media. in this case, Eatock opted for having that section in there and have much more feedback coming from the interpretations / titles. ..

... and not less important, the 1page presentation makes it much more user-friendly, because its a collection (one) on a website that has other collections and groups of work. much better than a thumb for a collection, than loads of thumbs to see each image alone. ..

I mean THAN loads =THEN loads ... sorry.

ok I guess it fits the purpose.
but I was just considering if those photos wouldn't be much more artistic photos if they didn't give you any clues and you had to interpret them from scratch.
In the end what I meant is that WE are lazy. We only think over a picture or a text after a caption/title, not before.
I do it also. But also I think if it wouldn't be better if interpretation could work without references given by the author.
It's like telling how the story ends even before you've read it.

ok
what i mean is: i recognise a piece of art (music, literature, graphic, etc) for it's ability to create a maze that YOU (the viewer) must solve to reach a conclusion or even no conclusion at all.
I think that creating solving-interest is what may create a work of art nowadays. Letting people work through.
If you have a statement to make, an idea to push, that's not really art: it's just propaganda (at best).
That's why I think between stories, paintings, design, music, if there's not something hidden to discover than you may just have a piece of dirt where a piece of curiosity must have been.

I know I've just written lousy English, but I think my ideas were clear and passed through.
If not, well then let's have some beer.
