Hey all,
I'm looking to buy a good a3 printer for home use. Would like to be able to print on different media, thickness, pourous etc. Good for sharp vector work aswell as photos Any recommendation ......?

As I always say when this question comes up - my favourite ever printer was the Canon i9100 - a solid all-rounder, especially where media thickness is concerned. I believe the contemporary model is the Pro 9000.
I'm currently on an Epson r2400, which is great quality, can do A3+ and roll-printing - though I've not really had the opportunity to dick around with thicker stock yet.

on the r2400..
THICKNESS (ASF) 0.08mm - 0.27mm
THICKNESS (Manual - Roll) 0.29mm - 0.48mm
THICKNESS (Manual - Front) 1.3mm..which would make sense - I wanted a printer that could do rolls and thicker than average stock, so plumped for this one after another NTer's recommendation.

cheers. so you're happy with it. Replace inks much?

I second Epson, colors are great and it's fairly cheap.
You will need to replace the ink soon after you buy it because the only fill em up 20% , after that it will cost a small fortune to replace or can. I always buy noname ink to 1/5 of the price and the results are flawless.

I always buy noname ink to 1/5 of the price and the results are horrible after a few years in the archives.

I got an old canon i9950, good quality, prints a3 borderless + SrA3.
Inks are about €15 per colour, 8 inks so you get your 4 cmyk and 4 photo colours for extra richness?
Did my portfolio with it and worked fine, vectors nice and crisp and photos very good colours.
