How do I set up a PDF so that only certain text areas can be altered in adobe acrobat pro?

look up LiveCycle Designer by adobe.

is this the only option? I thought there was a way without this...

hmm... not sure... it's what i usually use.
you can do a few 'advanced edits' in Acrobat Pro... but your hands are still pretty tied.
I wonder if inDesign or Illy have some third-party pdf-making plug-ins?

I dont think you would need anything, would you? you could just lock the layers and let them use Illustrator or InDesign.

do you mean like forms and stuff?

Sort of, I'm trying to make awards for people to just change the name they're giving it to in the font I set it for.

if they own and know how to use Acrobat Pro then you need do nothing and they just use the text edit tool.

But he doesn't want them to alter the questions themselves, correct?
If you can even do that. I've never made a form like that, but I imagine it'd be useful.

why would you want to eat a pdf?

there's 1 field, and it's just to type someone's name. so the default file they change and personalize has "johnny doe" written where I want them to be able to type whatever name they wish.

Let me try to save the day.
Acrobat 7.0
From the menu:
Tools
Advanced Editing
Text Field ToolFrom there, drag a drop a marque and then a dialog box pops and you can edit type, color, etc.
Hopefully this helps.

That works, but it's not keeping the text centered how the template should be and is set up to be...
- adamm0
would help if you lock that text field? Thats all I can think of...

Nah still not workin.
PonyBoy, have you used LiveCycle Designer before? Easy to use? I can't seem to download a trial for OSX.
