Is it acceptable nowadays to use Truetype fonts in print jobs?

sure. if you don't need multi-platform support, expanded character sets or glyph substitution. go fer it.

I know it used to be a big "NO" I was wondering if it might be ok now. I've always shied away from using them in favour of T1 or OT but I have rediscovered a load of superb TTF fonts and would like to consider using them.

if you're worried about it .. just convert them to outline after saving a live version.

yeah, outline fonts, or with all my printers i've switched to delivering pdf with the fonts embedded, no more font issues.

Best idea is probably to check with the printer, you know?

Well I'm not about to call every printer in the possibility I might at some point use Truetype fonts in a print job... but thanks. And outlining 300 pages of text wouldn't be n option either.
Maybe I'll just convert them to OT with TransType, that'll save any problems, unless I fuck them up along the way.

Any printer made in the last 10 years can handle TTF.
