Anyone have experience with being told not to do something outside of work, by your boss? Just interested...

i was told once to stop pissing on the boss's tires when he would leave his car in the parking garage overnight.

I had a boss who was involved in the local chamber of commerce who felt strongly I should buy my new car from her chamber member's dealership.

What about telling you to not attend a public event outside of office hours? Am I crazy to think that it's none of their business?
- CALLES0
thats why you read the fine print before you sign anything

Some form of sexual harassment?
- mrdobolina0
speaking of which, our company just went public about a month or 2 back.
I have a sexual harassment seminar on Nov. 1.
I am going to harass the shit out of that sex.

Sounds like none of their business. What's the public event?

Not sure about the rest of the country, but in Texas we'd call that BULLSHIT.

I had a marketing person tell me how to design a layout, make it this colour, try this front, WTF are on, I said. It ended there.

Are you attending some KKK rally?
- spendogg0
are you going to be the guest of honor at the Gay Porn awards?
- dirtydesign0
My boss hates cursing, so I drop F bombs all day.
Otherwise, no...

The event lacks importance, IMHO, it's purely a principle issue, it's not the K.K.K., and i haven't signed JACK, thats my whole point really, since I am not a contract employee, they cant really tell me what to do outside of the workplace, right? Anyone dealt with this before?
- Llyod0
why don't you just tell us what it is that he doesn't want you to do?
- edd-e0
what exactly are they telling you not to do or what to do??
your outside life shouldnt even be discussed at the office, unless you opened your life to them.

(Oct 19 07, 12:39)It is none of their business. Tell them to fuck right off
- blaw0
it's none of their damn business, of course, but you really should clue us in on your scandalous private life.

is this about how you spend your weekends at the Power Exchange?
- NONEIS0
OK guys, thanks for that, just wanted the collective position on this (looks like I was right). I would get more specific about it (I promise), but its not my place to vent all the deets on NT, and like I said before, it's the principle that counts here, not the event itself. I honestly was honestly hoping someone else who might have been through this would let me know what they did, how they dealt with it, because I really don't want to have to tell them to "bite me" and walk, or "give me a contract + raise and I will do whatever you want", should be simpler than all that, like getting them to understand where the line begins.

is it a career fair?
