hi
i hwant to create a textfield [done] fill it with text[done] and they fill it with a bitmap.
it is this last bit that i can't work out.
i have a bitmap in the library, linkage is set, but i can't work out how to use that as a fill on a textfield generated using the 'createTextField' command.
is it possible?
link to example or tutorial?
i have done some searching but no luck.

I don't think it's possible to do that with ActionScript.
Manually you could put your bitmap on a layer, and then use your text as a mask.
But if I remember correctly, you have to convert the text to fills, for that to work.

I don't think it's possible too...
But, changing your textfield to dynamic and html you can load an external image/swf on it via tag.

Make sure you embed the font for the text field so you can use it as a mask. Create textfield inside of a movieclip. Then create the bitmap fill , position it around textfield movieclip so it fits the text's dimensions. Then use setMask. i.e. bmp.setMask(txt);
Maybe try giving that a shot. I've never done it before but maybe it'll work.

Just an idea - but maybe mess around with .setMask applied to the text to see if you can achieve what you need that way
