yup. AOL is cutting 1/5 of their workforce. 2000 people. I am sure this will affect the northern virginia area where i love pretty bad since it is the AOL HQ.

I still can't believe that google sunk 1 billion into that company.

AOL was banking on the fact that people would never realize there was another, better internet outside of their walled garden. Not a good recipe for a long term strategy.

(Oct 15 07, 14:46)i know bunches of peeps who worked there and zero severance... unless they had stock....before google took the primary shares and diluted the ones the employees had.... oops.

Working there is like being an mouse, constantly living with the shadow of hawks circling above...never knowing when your card will get punched... It's kind of a right of passage living in the DC metro in our feild..."when did AOL lay YOU off" is a great converstaion starter.
For me, Art Director for about a year...then the hawks ate my entire department...at least then they gave me 6 month severance...
Working at AOL = zero job security. I can't beleive they still exist.....nice cafeterias though...

(Oct 16 07, 09:14)I interviewed with a guy who was pretty high up the chain there a while ago. Great guy, brilliant mind and seemed like he'd be a great leader. He's working downtown now and I'm hoping to get back in front of him for a job by the end of this week.
He had some great stories from AOhell. :)

I took this in the campus garage when I worked there walking into work one day. I guess he/she loves their job :)
