as long as your hardware is supported by XP, it should be no different. it's just XP on your mac hardware.

3Dmax is good, but I would really look at Cinema 4d, it a great app on PC and native mac.

I have grown to like Modo, specially ver. 3. More intuitive than 3dmax and C4D when it comes to modeling
and it's a native OS X app

+1 for C4D.
If you're a regular after effects user, you'll find that cinema integrates nicely with AE, more so than any other 3D app (IMHO).
From a learning curve stand point, I tried 3ds, Maya and Lightwave but none were as easy to learn as c4d.
try out all the demos and decide for yourself.

3dmax has them all beat! you had it right the first time! you just cant beat years of experience! any other 3d software that tries to come up! will soon be bought out by autodesk and added to the 3dmax menu. plain and simple! so why waste time learning other crap? go straight to the one that is running the show..the own maya now and that should run on your mac.

Autodesk has owned 3DS max for a few years now.
I use it everyday (and have been for many, many years), but it's more about compatilibity than what is the best.
I'd look around. Max is pretty pricey at $3500. Basic versions of Maya and C4D are much cheaper.
They all can do anything. I'd suggest looking at your industry, who you will be working with, and looking at what they use.
