Why do a lot of people that use mt to host have a little icon or write a special thanks to them for "graciously hosting" (actual quote, for example) it? It's not like mt is doing a favour... or is it? is it sort of a contractual thing?
And now that we're on it, what's so special about them? any reason or recommendations?
- radar0
Oh you've done it now, you just brought down the hammer!
- grunttt0
i equate it with leaving a tag on your sneakers... kind of "look what i got" name dropping kinda thing... for 15 year old white kids that are into hip hop.
- TheBlueOne0
I use 'em. I like 'em. Not enough to put there little icon on my sites, but you know...customer service has always been pretty good for me other than when they switched over to the whole grid thing, but they got shit together...
I guess what bugs me most is that despite all their cool security and everything, if there's the eventual Big One in california I think my website will slide into the Pacific...

this question takes me back to the day... specifically 2003 or so

TheBlueOne - so are you happy with GS then?
and i thought MT were co-located?
- ldww0
mt gives a lot of hosting away to the bigger name web designers (or used to) for exposure. the people would but the tag on their site. then other people wanted to be like them and moved to MT, paid for an account, and put a tag on their site too.
its all about advertising. why do you wear a lot of the name brand clothes you do?
- Jaline0
What grunttt said.
And what ldww said. They are basically a brand name.
- BonSeff0
actually no jaline.
once you have had clients burned by others, you kinda come to appriciate mt's reliability.
the shared virtual is pretty badass.
things have run a lot smoother for us and our clients since i convinced the suits to make the switch
- Jaline0
I don't disagree, but I have used other hosts with great reliability too....
- Jaline0
and it's a popular company, so it basically is a brand name. it doesn't mean it's not a good company.
- BonSeff0
its a popular company in the design community. but not a popular company as a whole.. the universe doesnt revolve around us, sadly
- radar0
it doesn't?
- emecks0

(mt) takes care of its family. In exchange for a lifetime of free hosting, I was asked to display the (mt) logo.
I think that is more than fair. The service has always been top notch for me.
- maximillion_0
Ive always been impressed with them - especially the support and I have sat out for the whole GS initial period wiating for the calm....its good to know things are smooth now. thanks TheBlueOne
and hi MX!
- maximillion_0
any other users enjoying the grid? especially those with advanced PHP and MySQL apps?
- emecks0

(Sep 26 07, 06:21)I believe they lease racks from net2ez in s. cali. I would doubt they have their own datacenter. I could be wrong though...
