Anyone know what the penalties are for not having health insurance?
I hear different thing, withhold all taxes, withhold some..
Ways around this?

didn't know americans are going to be forced to get insurance. sounds like facism makng you give more money to their corporations against your will to me.

You lose your personal exemption for 2007 if you don't have insurance (i think it's $2750 or something close to that), so you end up paying more taxes, but it increases in subsequent years.

IRS? it's a little different when you're forced to go to a private insurance company by the government or else. even if you're low income and opt for a state plan (that's likley out sourced) seems rather tricky to me. it's like give us more money or we take more money.
i wasn't going to post this but (i did) this is basically where i'm coming from. full doc is somewhere out there. there is no law that says you must pay income tax.

Obviously I don't know what I'm talking about - but wouldn't being required to purchase your own insurance mean that you could specify the level of plan you take on?
Heh, yeah - I wondered whether you might mention that old 'no law for federal taxes' thing - I've only ever come across it on fairly whackjob sites (usually liked off'a Rense and its ilk), so have never been assured of its veracity.

I think mandatory insurance is terrible for the exact reason that we have to go to private companies to get it.
From what I understand if I get insurance by December 31st I will get my tax refunds. I will cancel it the second I have my check.

There's only contention because apparently there were some slight punctuation differences in the various laws approved by the states. There is income tax, it's legit, all the arguments against it have been thrown out by the supreme court so stfu and stop spreading this conspiracy bullshit.
