I've got an annual report to take over but so far it's been entirely created in InDesign CS3.
I'm an advanced Quark user but I desperately want to convert to InDesign.
Are there any GOOD online resources I can use to help the switch?
I'm particularly interested in typography options, setting text neatly, etc.
Thanks.
BTW I Googled but it didn't throw up anything useful. Maybe I used the wrong search terms.

I think you just need to learn how to use InDesign, there's no switch at all.
Just consider that you need a QX document in 4 version to convert it in InDesign without any problem.
You will not turn back.

I just feel I have less control (at the moment) in basic typesetting. In Quark I knew all the shortcuts for spacing/kerning, breaking & non-breaking spaces, line breaks, page breaks, etc. I have no idea where to start with CS3.

there's a seminar on adobe.com that compares indesign cs2 and quark. you have to log in to watch it, but here is the list of online seminars:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/eve…
it's next to last on the list.
they also have a comparison of quark and indesign cs3 in pdf here:

i hope that helps.

Hey Dita! Yeah it's been a busy couple of months, not had time to stop. Move to Philadelphia, new job, new apartment, etc.
I'll send you a mail with all the gossip soon. How are you doing anyway?

if you can handle quark... but know the shortcut keys (kerning, leading etc) in Illy...
... you're already @ 80%...
... plus you can even set your shortcut keys to mimic Quark via the app's preferences.

you can do a lot of the typesetting in the character and paragraph style sheet panels. look under type > insert special characters menu for things like page / column breaks etc.. also the story panel has controls for hanging indents and punctuation.

I for one have found InDesign to be much more robust in its typesetting capabilities. Poke around in all the palettes for a bit, it won't take long to make a smooth transition. Took me about a week to get relatively comfortable in InDesign. If Illy makes sense to you, then you'll do just fine w/ ID.

I'm good, moving myself actually - into a new appartment in Stockbridge. Email me - be good to hear your gossip.
