    The company decided to replace the old intranet with a new, more social networking oriented one. We are looking for software that could run it. Anyone can suggest a nice out-of-the-box or open source solution? The best we found so far is http://www.thoughtfarmer.com/pro… but we're still looking.

    A rough list of planned features:
    - content management, page structure & content creation/editing tools
    - blogging tools
    - wikis
    - individual editable user/team pages
    - configurable feature boxes, banners, polls, videos
    - photo galleries
    - file sharing
    - commenting/rating/tagging throughout the site
    - personalized & shared rss readers
    - social bookmarking
    - Active Directory integration

    Anyone? Madirish, would Plone be suitable for this?

    hahaha :)

    i just did a search for Plone and found this! love to comment dude, if not too late;

    in a nutshell: Yes. Plone is pretty ideally suited for this outline, especially given the "- individual editable user/team pages, - Active Directory integration, - configurable feature boxes, banners, polls, videos, - photo galleries, - file sharing" features you need. There have been many added modules to video/photo aspects of Plone and actually, these have been used in several new 'social network' sites.

    a lot of your evaluation should also rest in the technical and load requirements of the project and how it will scale. Plone is ideal for this, but really does need to be properly outfitted with hardware to run optimum, especially if load is going to ramp up. Also, if multi-lingual is going to play in on the CMS side, Plone has basically all other options beat there as well.
