design dimensions?
thoughts comments? the site i plan on designing is more of a portfolio site.

If you've got a graphic portfolio aimed at agencies, you can afford to design for 1024w (maybe i'm old fashioned - maybe you can even go up as high as 1280w, but probably not).
If you're a webnik, you should probably make it so it degrades nicely in 800w (but I'm supposing you're not).
Either way, you want to knock off about 60 pixels width to compensate for scroll bars and bumph.

id say make the width of the design about 950px for a nice round number, but dont be restricted to that... noone likes to side scroll.
make your fold about 650 high.
non agency websites width 744px is my personal fav :)

I would go with 1024 but bear in mind that a number of people browse with favorites open in the left pane in IE thereby reducing your usable browser width down closer to 800 again... just sayin'

bender cool thanks. yea its difficult, I just don't think you can make everyone happy. so i guess i'll just go with the most common.
