Printing on black

Any advice?
I proposed the client to use a white which my Dutch printer calls "dekwit", meaning it's extra dense for clear white, yet, it still looked fairly greyish on a previous print job, compared to the silver that was used. But that paper was glossy, now it's the opposite.
Yet I think white would become even paler on the regular black paper..
sorry for not knowing all the english printing vocabulary, but i hope you get it.
anyone used white before?

Double up on the white? Can you're printer not run the white twice to get it good and white as opposed to faded-underwear gray?

im screenprinting a metalic silver onto dark blue for a job im doing at the moment. I have a sample here and it looks fine. if its possible within ur budget, screenprinting might be a better option for white on black.

Ahhhhhhhhhh fuck off Ian!!

I was wondering if anyone knew of a better colour i could propose, like silver..

my response is for ian.
screenprinting is not an option now. good one though.
could have gone with foil as well, but that is even more expensive, no?

Crouwel, I've seen a metallic silver on black before and its looked ok though still a little faded, but it was on an uncoated stock so it did absorb a bit of the ink. But I don't think it was as bad as a straight up white would be.

so you are assuming white to be less contrasting on black uncoated stock?
cheers! good that i know, because now i will check with my printer to be sure and then contact my client, instead of going with white and having fingers crossed...

I'd have a chat with the printer first and see what they thin and if they have any samples of previous work done in the way you were thinking.
At least then you'd have a fair idea of what to expect and you could show the client if they can't visualise it.
But talk to the printer, they should know a shit-load more about this kind of thing than us designers, if they are any good!

thx ian.
yeah, i've seen a sample of silve r on uncoated black before there, it looked ok, but not really superb! yet, the only other solution with white on black i have seen was with coated paper and the silve ron that looked a LOT brighter than the white..
but i'll ask the printer again. cheers.
