-----------------------I'd not suggest to go to Rozendaal as an alternative... And Dampkrieg (very cool name though!) would be Dampkring i guess.
Every day i see tourists making the mistake to visit the cofeeshop in the morning, underestimating the effects of the dutch herbs, and getting lost for the rest of the day.
One mayor tip though; DO NOT get a cab at central station.. It's a banana republic over there, and likely the most expensive one too :)

go to Ann Franks house.
I thought it would be boring but I really enjoyed it. PLUS it is out of the way of the drunken english pricks who are only there for for 4 things - Beer, Drugs, Sex and the clap.
I really enjoyed it around the Ann Frank part of town. STAY AWAY from the Red Light District between Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.
If you do venture be sure to take a football shirt, a burberry cap, a lonsdale t-shirt and some reebok classics

I tend to get high at home and when I'm out I stay well away from the tourist areas.. But I did grow up near Niagara Falls, so I am pretty familiar with the tourist scene...

yes - i guess that's what everybody does when they are tourists. Sight-seeing, shopping, 1 or 2 museums, dinner and booze. I was asking because everybody speaks about Amsterdam like the puff mecca and that seems a bit unfair. To me at least - maybe because I don't usually do drugs.
