When you copy layers Photoshop places "copy" on the layer(s) names. How can you stop this from happening?
Your Anal designer.

I'm looking for a way to rid me of this task all together. So all my layers are named all nice and pretty the first time around.

Record an action? I don't know if that will work....
What names do you want them to have?

yeah, actions will work. but it's almost the same work as renaming the layer. If it's more than one layer then an action would be ok, but you usually won't have the same number of layers for each project. unless you made them into one layer or something.
this is complicated.

Generally when you right-click on a layer, and select Duplicate, you should be prompted as to where you want to dup the layer (that document or another), and what to name it. If that's not happening, a preset may have gotten zonked and you'll have to inspect your settings.
