Brook, the fact that you have "little interest in theology" is very telling. How can you argue against things of which you are uninformed?
I see much evidence for God's existence in the world around me, in Scripture, in the lives of others and in my own life. You don't like the evidence? Fine. But who set you up as the author of believable proofs?
I didn't believe for years, then God basically kicked me square in my stubborn head and made it impossible for me to avoid or ignore him. Best thing that ever happened to me. It's ok if it hasn't happened to you. It's ok if you think I'm full of shit and have been brainwashed or whatever other conclusions you might arrive upon. It doesn't tarnish my faith in the least.
Your assumption that God is an imaginary being cannot be taken seriously in light of the fact that you haven't even studied your enemies.

*I should say, the authority on what counts as a believable proof.
This is the trouble here. We're all chasing our tails and ultimately it doesn't seem to matter who wins this argument, from what I can see. I'm in danger of not being a nice guy anymore, so it's time for me to say goodbye for the day.

christian followers arent enemies. they're like harry potter fans

Dodging the issues won't help you either. I have no interest in the study of scriptures, i have lots of interest in the study of evolution. You deny evolution happened therefore i am more than equipped to argue on this. More importantly i know what makes for good evidence and what doesn't.
Your quaint anecdotes do not qualify for evidence in any way shape or form. You claim god kicked you in the head, unless this is a metaphor (i suspect it is) this is a claim about the physical world we co-exist in. If so, there should be real evidence that doesn't rely on your interpretation.
My ham sandwich demands your worship, you can do this by sending me cash to the following address. Obey the sandwich or face a eternity of suffering...

This is really strange. Do you hear yourselves? Those of you who disagree w/ Christians - your responses are just spiteful and hateful. Do you realize that you are doing to me exactly what you claim I do to everyone else? How does that make you better? You are only proving the scriptures to be correct and don't eve know it. I know I'm no better than anyone. I will venture to say that I am worst and capable of more evil than the most of you here. As for government goes, the bible says that God ordained government and every position of it. Because it was meant for wrong doers, people who broke the laws. But regardless, I don't depend on government, I respect the position and the authority of it b/c I know it's purpose. However, I also understand that at the helm of this government there are men and women who have lust and passions for power, b/c of their position in government and seek to fulfill that lust at any cost. I am capable of the same thing maybe worse. That's why I need a saviour. That's why we all need one b/c of what we are capable of doing and do to get what we want - at any cost.

don't tell me I need a savior.

If you can't be good without the threat of punishment or the promise of reward in the afterlife this is your problem. Most of us are good in the here and now because we think it is the right thing to do and understand the simple principle, i don't like it when bad things happen to me so i'll try not to do them to other people. Not because some angry sky-faerie tells us to.

gotta be frustrating to be at war with people who can care less tho

Ive said it before and I will say it again, you can believe anything you like, just stay out of the government with that stuff.

I'm not good b/c of a threat. I'm not even good now that I have been born again. I'm not afraid of God in the least and it's not b/c of fear that I remain. I am compelled by His love for me and how He pursues me. There is nothing that I can do to make Him love me anymore or less. The bible says, that, "God sent Christ to die on the cross in spite of who we were; even though we chose to ignore God and chase our own desires, Christ still chose to die" Not a madate for me to believe...a choice. Men have made God a monster. But all He has done is made Himself available to us all; to those that will listen. I chose to listen and so I hear and am compelled to remain.

Dude, as far as I'm concerned, you can have the government. Put it on a plate, season it and gorge on it. I don't want it. I know that apart from Christ all you could ever have in government is a flawed, imperfect and at best a mediocre politician represent you. I know better.
