i'm just about to buy an imac as well for the house.
at the moment i've got a 19"dell running off the ibook with a screen extender hack that at least gives me more real estate on screen but yeah, i can't believe i design on that thing. haha.

be sure to get at least a couple gigs of ram.
i hear the brand new imacs dont run the creative sweet as well as the gen i got. plus the glossy screens arent the best to design with - just fyi

as nice as i think the new ones look, i think i'm going to purchase a refurb 24" imac and drop in the max amount of ram.

my iMac ran like a lame dug till I upgraded the RAM. Now its pretty good.
