Nope, not interviewing with them, I just came across their ad and they're looking for so much people, I figured something was up. I gather by that "oh man..." that I should not even bother?

sorry, not at all.
they are clearly one of the leading agencies and run a really tight operation. their accounts speak for themselves, but they just get flak here as they have had an odd (their own right, no question) hiring process w/ test, etc that have turned people off.
i have no experience with them and to be honest, would love to learn more about the way they contruct projects as they are very sucessful. they are definitly only growing and putting out lots of tight work.

I have heard that they require designers to work under their very strict 'FI' Style...This could be good or bad, depending on what you want to do...they are definitely very progressive though

i just personally find boring make applications non-stop. But they are quite nice and friendly guys, so its up to you.

most "design tests" are a scam, but in this case they truly need someone to mimic their style.

I had cnn.com too. Other people have said Apple, or something for Google. There's some other things they ask for (designing a few icons in a set).
The design test thing is actually brought up in your interview, if you score one, so it's worth it to really think it through.
Nice guys, the interview was hardcore though. I probably needed a good ass-kicking at that point though.

So they put you through the test on the first interview, or is it more like, come in again monday and redesign CNN for us?

If they like your stuff, they send you the test. If they like your test, they pull you in for an interview to talk about it, and your other stuff.
