good times...but as a gay guy...I'd rather see the hot guys at splash

Good point didnt mean to lump the quality of bands together, SXSW absolutely has amazing bands, the people picking know what they are doing.
I just think the amount of venues/bands, the cost of everything, and the marketing is out of control.
better people too for sure, just not my THANG.

Have any of you gotten any business or done some beneficial networking there?

I went last year on business and had a pretty good time. I think that if I went on personal time I would of had even more fun.
Nothing better then good music and a shit ton of free booze.
I say its worth it.. You can usually find a ton of free things to do that week even if you don't have one of the all access passes.

I'm going to be in Austin for six weeks (ish) just prior to SXSW. Will any good shows be going on, or does everyone wait for SXSW, creating a black hole of music for the prior few weeks?

thats 5 months away!
but there are always good shows
keep your eye on this as the date gets closer

Yeah I know it's 5 months away but I'm really excited! And, really, it's only 3 1/2 months until I leave for Austin. 5 until I leave from Austin.
Is February a dead month?

There are always great shows going on. another great thing about Austin is the Alamo DraftHouse. Moved to central Texas (25 minutes north of DT Austin in Georgetown) just over a year ago and love it. Summer was hot but bearable in my opinion. ...but i am not the elegant type. Best area to live in Texas by far.
