Get a referb Macbook Pro from apple in their referb section. Then Buy an external 20 or 24 inch dell.

you should get one. i'm going to. besides, print kills trees and baby jesus.

i like apple. i like the whole imac package. the only thing i am "rethinking" is the whole glossy thing.
but like most said screens are used as a reference for colors not a primary matching system.

I prefer the 'old' imac. The previous model, not into aluminium, kinda looks like an eighties house club, just a thought. The glossy thing would piss me off too.

i'm running cs3 on a macbook w/ 2GB ram - works great... imac should be blazing w/ 2GB...

going to buy an iMac but also purchasing a second monitor as my primary screen. But color matching is never going to be spot on. Pantones all the way here

so you're cool with screwy colors? are you just in love with macs?

thanks for everyones input. to each is his own and I believe that a 2gig iMac will do just fine for me.
Thanks again everyone!

Errrm if your designing for print......can I just say
Pantone swatches and a decent Printer, is the only accurate system you can get!NO SCREEN is 100% accurate no matter how calibrated it is.
We have 4 new 24" imacs and there all huey calibrated and the colors look just the same as they do on our cinema displays.

my suggestion is get a new mini with a dell ultrasharp.

2 gig should be fine, more is always better though. no problem on my imac.
glossy screen is imposible to callibrate, if you where thinking of doing that.
but hey, you can never trust your colors on screen, it's just a reference...

when you purchase a mbp you get to choose glossy or matte. should be the same on the iMac but its not. I dont think they will make the matte iMac screen because of the way Jobs presented the glossy in the keynote.
I got a mbp, matte, 2 gb ram and cs3 runs nice.

got 4GB. CS3 runs fine. The screen is awesome, don't see the print "issue" since spot colors never look accurate on screen anyway...

as far as the ram issue goes, i'm running a mac mini up'd to 2gb (on the intel core duo) and the cs3 suite runs like a charm. should be a breeze on the imac.

i agree about the screen... i was just about to order one but i saw one in the apple store and the screen is way too reflective. let's hope a matte version comes soon.

Glossy screen is a bummer, but so is the new iMac video board which is reported to be way slower than the old one.

true that. Glossy screen makes colors look OFF. Not a good idea for a print (or any) pro designer.

the screen comes in glossy only. colors will look different. this is bad for design.
