I've got a 90 minute movie in 4:3 that I need to letterbox to 1.85:1. I've got 2 options that I know of:
1. Do it with Compressor
2. Use the widescreen filterOption 1 is the fastest but there are some scenes we want to move up or down within the matte.
Option 2 offers more control BUT the matte shows the layer beneath (black if only 1 layer) and I have to apply it cut by cut and at 90 minutes with 4 video layers this doesn't seem to be the best solution.
Is there a method I'm missing or something? Does anyone have any experience/info on this? Thanks.

Option 3:
If your whole 90 min movie is on one timeline with 4 layers of video, the easiest and most flexible option is to create a 1.85 letterbox in photoshop (a black solid with a 1.85 alpha), save out as a targa and key it over the entire thing as a 5th layer.
Ultimately, you will need to render if you go out to tape or encode for DVD as with any of your other options, but you can't beat it from a workflow perpective.

new sequence cut other sequence into it
one layer will appear in your timeline including two audio tracks >>>
filter widescreen matte move shots as you like :) this is your solution.

you can select everything in your original edit and simply drag and drop you widescreen effectonto your cuts ninja so you do not have to do it cut by cut or you can cut and paste attributes if you like.

Thanks chossy, that was my solution.
