Hrm ... could I just fly into Ft. Lauderdale and cab it to Miami Beach? Is that like hundreds of bucks or something ridiculous on top of the flight?

no... but you can fly into ft lauderdale which is cheaper than flying to miami and then just get a super shuttle that is only like 50$
