My question is if I my mac pro comes with 1Gb ram (2x512mb) and I want to upgrade with 4G (2x2Gb), will I be able to keep the original stick on it so it becomes 5Gb ram? I hear somewhere that the ram stick needs to match or something.
I searched the web to no avail, anybody knows anything about this?
Thanks

yes you can keep them. stick the 2x2GB in slots 1 & 2 on riser A and the 2x512MB in slots 1 &2 on riser B. you won't see the benefits of quad-channel but i doubt you'd notice any real speed increase in everyday use. the sticks must be installed in pairs, which you have(2x2 and 2x512).

the real question is how much are you paying for that.
anyone know trusted sites that sell at good prices?
meok, did you get a quad or 8 core?
