i just want an honest opinion about how important it is to have a good folio that has outstanding graphics / past projects to get a job at a design firm..
i ask cuz' i studied comp sci in uni. and i've always been interested in doing interactive / web design.. i guess my forte is in web / ui design than graphics.. but i ain't got a 'folio that i feel would be "good enough" for a design firm - too amateurish (that and i have no academic bg in the vis. arts)..
so what do you guys think, would a cs' major - proficient in flash / js / c / java / php make the cut with an "amateurish" 'folio???
thx

if you want to do design, then you need to demonstrate that level in your portfolio...most companies wont hire you without seeing design work (if you are applying for a design position)...With that said, you may be able to come on board at a small shop as a developer, with the idea to pick up design as you go...The other option is to get a design internship (start small), and then look for FT work after that point. The dev stuff you already know will only help strengthen you as an asset to a company...
hope that helps
