I want to make something like a spinning disco ball with textures I made. All I need is a 3d sphere, do I need to make it myself in a 3d program or can i get these pre made for free? Is there a way to do this just in after effects ?

Yes you can get these premade. Try:
www.turbosquid.comYou can also get a plugin for AE made by Zaxwerks called "3D Invigorator," which will import Illy files, as well as various universal 3D models, and allow you to create 3D animation directly within AE.

Thanks. I could get a free set of these too!
So I searched for a free sphere and got these. Could I take these apart and use them as I wish? Like the xmas orniment or the ball with eyes?

Yeah a 3D sphere is a 3D sphere. Just a matter of what kind of material you map to the surface. And then assigning lights and so on. It could be a disco ball, could be a schwetty ball. Up to you.

in Ae create a comp with all your videos there on a grid, than use that comp as a texture on a 3d sphere or use the spherize effect and chop the edges down to a circle with a mask...
animate your sub comp to simulate the ball rotating, with the spherize effect it will create a quasi 3d effect.

hey sweet good suggestion anayafx. sphereize is what I was thinking because there'll be a slight learning curve for 3d on my part. i'll try both. thanks again.

sure thing man... ive gotten so much help on this forum.... i gotta pay a little back once in a while!
Hope that works out for you

there you go, its working! Hard to tell from the gif but.... keep in mind to keep your pre-comp resolutions high so that when you run the spherize effect it will keep it sharp!
and make sure to turn up the speherize effect all the way so the distorion mimics a true sphere ( so the top and bottom are correct)

make on in C4D, import it als a tga sequence? much easier.

the technique worked well for what i want to do. i don't even want it to look like real 3d. i just threw this together but liked the result, just have to fiddle with the proportions and the way the layers are moving to create the spin. there's better spherize effects / plugins out there than what i got, it's up all the way i just have to figure it out and add another buldge or distrotion of some sort to make it look really round.

i've never bothered with real 3d before so it'd be too much trouble for something that would just look tooo ...uh...3d. you know?

this has nothing to do with your question... but what are you using a disco ball for? the village people on 3D
just kidding!

it's for little promo thing for molostudio my studio i'm in the early stages of putting together, basically it's like video/music so it'll pop on like a tv set then spin like a disco ball to some music and the little light reflections you get on the walls from a disco ball will say M O L O, then it'll turn off like a tv
