I feel like a freak for only having found this software last week.
I'd been looking for some decent photo management for aeons.
What else have I missed?

That you ought to have a mac with iphoto?
- kelpie0
really good innit? I only found it a couple of months ago myself

i HATE iphoto. can you use this picasa on a mac, too?
- paraselene0
ah, no.
:(

iphoto and lack of existence of a deceent photo browser for mac makes me wonder how apple managed to persuade people their stuff is the obvious choice for visual stuff/multimedia
- paraselene0
there MUST be a better option! what do you do, raf?
- rafalski0
I browse with small preview in forklift, same as thumbnail view in finder, then select all in folder to browse in preview.. it's pathetic.
This is the most interesting third party one I found:
http://www.setnan.org/mac/pictur…
it adds a command to content menu in finder. The ridiculous part is, they could just add browse (and delete!!!) functionality to preview and that's all we need

Why is iPhoto bad again?
- rafalski0
- it creates an enormous buildup of spare "original" files. I usually have bring gigabytes of images when I take my camera outside and I'd rather have control over my originals myself, don't need an idiotproof software to outsmart me.
- it is focused on managing while I only need to browse
- rafalski0
"I usually have bring"
=>
"I usually bring"of course :)
- paraselene0
not only that, but these same original files seem to cripple the thing.
my machine is a wee beastie, 2g ram, it's not a wendy laptop! and iphoto is the only thing that ever crashes it.
SORT IT OUT APPLE YOU TWATS.

Mac... Pfft.
I've used iPhoto and it still didn't work as I liked.Picasa on the other hand - Brilliant. Even the editing tools are great - saving me from opening Photoshop every time I wanna do an auto-contrast.
My only gripe is that it's not possible to add several captions at a time. Other than - it looks great, it works, and by MAGIC it put all my photos in date order.
Hopefully future releases will have a "Keep Folders Organised" option whereby it will rename all my shit to some pre-set defaults.

But seeing as you british people do everything the opposite way, maybe Apple wanted to honour that by making iPhoto non-working as opposed to working?
