I will be in Barcelona for a week in July for http://www.summercase.com but will have a few days to spend outside the city. Any suggestions, places to stay, nice towns/villages, beaches without concrete hotels? We sure will go to Cadaques (again) for 2-3 days, but wouldn't mind someplace new. It's gotta be on the coast though.. :)

Sitges, Girona, Figueras

Yesterday on TV talked about the works for the new line for the AVE high velocity train, what is going to pass bottom of the Sagrada Familia, and the view of the engineers involved in the construction of the cathedral about it.
Don´t forget to re-visit the area (if you´ve allready visited it)!

Oh!
And if you go to Sitges, ask for Juan Gimenez´s studio (a argentinian sci-fi comic author) ;))
He´s a great person too...

I will be in bcn for over a week, OBBTKN, with friends who are coming first time - I will have to revisit all the landmarks anyway ;)

Sitges... depends what are you searching for...
If time (or money) is your handicap, Surelly you can view more interesting things one day on BCN than in sitges.

I was thinking of something quieter, preferably with a nice beach for a day or three.. prolly unlikely in July in this part of the world.
Me and my gf know bcn and will have a few days for ourselves before our friends come. We thought of starting off somewhere outside the city.
Barcelona is an amazing city, but rest is hardly something it can provide :)

I would recommend Garraf. It's in between Castelldefels and Sitges, but much quieter. There's also a nice area just to the south that's really pretty.

Yeah, I know Garraf! We saw there the hairiest man on Earth, walking the beach wearing thong and almost black tan! King of the beach he was, too scary to take a picture!
69-71 is Garraf http://komercja.com/bcn/#pic=IMG…

Ha!
If you don't mind not spending the night right on the beach, you can always find a place in one of the towns just inland. It's just a short ride to the beach, and you won't have to deal with all the tourism fanfare.

sounds good moural, hopefully there will be some accomodation other than the beach still available in July :)

...I'd have just gone to Valencia.

san pol is nice about 45 mins north, good for a swim when stiuck in the city

sant pol you say?.. looks like a lovely destination for a day out..

I don't live there, can I just make that clear?
- rafalski0
oh, lovely to see you here kelpski!
any recommendations that would go along: beach, rocks, quiet, snorkeling, cigar puffing, estrella sipping?I heard you don't live there, so you can easily share the secret spots

I take it you've already been told to mainly avoid the obvious city centre for hanging about in? Anywhere else really is pretty cool. poble nou, poble sec, raval, born etc.
If you want to shag an argentinian hooker, look up calle maria cubi.
that's all fae me.

I lived there, hence the raging french pox problems.

also, good tip; the coke you get on the waterfront at 4 in the morning is rubbish and you might lose your wallet while completing the transaction. just a thought.
