We're putting together a demo reel and the question of music came up.
I've always been impressed by the likes of Brand New School, Shilo and EVB and their demo reels.
Music being a key part of them.
Anyone know the cost of licensing a song for something such as this?
I guess it depends on the artist, date of release, etc.
Thanks

My third hand production knowledge says that it all depends on usage. Media, length of time, etc. You would need to look into firms that deal specifically with licensing, or firms that specialize in business affairs for marketing and advertising.
On the other hand. I would not be surprised of a lot fo people don't clear any of these tracks for their reel. I never have. But then again, my audience has only ever been microscopic, and i've often used either very obscure things or my own work.
Good luck. :)

Most people that view a lot of demo reels turn the volume off so they don't focus on the wrong thing.
Mine, instrumental KRS-One:

The answer is fucking loads of money, unless you email them and ask very nicely...
Classical music makes for a nice change, plenty pianos and shit like that.

You have permission to use anything by Kenny Rogers.

Resurrecting this thread since I am trying to find some cool music for my new demo reel... specifically some nice french electro tracks.
Does anyone know any up to date royalty free music website?
The ones I've seen so far are not very cool... specially for this specific genre.

Look for creative commons record labels too. I ran a record label that had some creative commons stuff on it. Free to use with attribution.
