Can someone point me to a clear cut description of hnow to save brush libraries in Illustrator?
I've made some new ones, saved them, they seem to go in a default library, then they don't list like normal ones.
I just want to have ones I've created in "Library A" and all I have to do is select it, open it, and there they are - and also add new ones to it as I create them.
Am I missing something? I feel like I'm trying to fly a space shuttle.

you can set new 'Workspaces' and save them.
Window/ Workspace/
Save Workspace...you can manage differt 'Workapaces' for different projects and name them as you like...this works well when using dual monitors or organizing your brushes...

Oh man, I've been through that before. CS1 doesn't have this feature, right?

if you goto the dialog box for the 'Brush' palette and click on the triangle drop, there should be an option to "Save Brush Library"
remember changes or additions to Preferences dont take effect til restart of program.

I see that part.
Here's my process:
1) Make new brush
2) Choose "New Brush" in main Brush pallette
3) Set info, chooe name, save
4) Brush appears in main Brushes pallette
Q: How exactly do I get it to go in the desired library? Drag and Drop? Save To?
I can't really see that those things exist.

(Jun 22 07, 09:58)the brush "libraries" are just .ai files saved in your illustrator presets folder. so when you save a new library, all the new brushes in that .ai file will save with it.

I'm not a total idiot, I promise!
But in the main brush pallete, there are some usual IL brushes that always appear there.
I don't want these in my specific set of self-created ones. How do I just save certain ones to a Library?
When the extra libraries are opened, I can't do anything in those: no delete, no save, nothing.

if you dont want the default brushes at all, open the 'Brushes Folder' in the Application folder for Illusstrator and move them not delete them out of the brushes folder, and leave the new brush you created in their place.

i've lost you then.. ?
when you open your new library it should open in a new palette.
just close the main brushes palette if you don't want to see the standard ai brushes.
???

horton thats too easy!!
- horton0
actually yeah but then you do lose the edit controls etc... so not really good advice.
your suggestion is good if mg really wants to see those defaults gone.
or delete all defaults, open new library, add to brush palette and save a template .ai file.

wouldnt he actullay have to save 2 templates
1 CMYK/ 1 RGB ??

LOL, I'm with you to that point, just so totally confused as to how I save particular brushes (and not other brushes) to a Library of my own.
I'm gonna call Adobe, this is out of control. :D

mg33-
create 2 documents, 1 RGB, the other CMYK
create the sets of brushes in each one, save document to desktop as '.ai' filetype quit illy...
take the 2 new files and put them in the Adobe Illustrator folder in the Application folder under this:
Adobe Illustrator/ Presets/ Brushes
take out the brushes that are pre-set as the defaults out of there nd make a new folder to store for later.
- horton0
but if you delete all unused and save library, your library will be just your brushes.
the reason the others keep showing is because AI default loads them up with every new doc. do what epill said if you really want them gone.

haha he's getting PVN tag-teamed.

Man, Photoshop and Illustrator seriously need to get crunked some night and let go of their inhibitions, with Photoshop pounding away from the top, shouting "Yah, you want some of that!? Here's something to better manage your brushes, uh huh, that's what you want, that's what you NEED."
