the phantom space caused under the main navigation UL that appears in ie6 and earlier but not in any other browser (as far as i know)
why is this? and how do i fix it?

i'm on a mac so i can't see the problem but often times errors like this are from the margin error on IE (it doubles up).
short answer: give the div a value of 'display: block or inline' the problem will probably be fixed. probably. check the following:

plus google is a big help when you know what to ask for obviously.

i cant see nor have the time now, but check margin padding and most important overflow on the problem causing elements
ie is a bitch for overflow

It could be the display:block; in the css if you set it to inline it should take off any margins, ie 6 doubles margins randomly i find :)
however i don't have time to look into it properly. gl

just had a look at your css, i think you should put a display:inline; on the li in the sidenav.
maybe risk a clear:both; for overkill. i could be mistaken tho as im dead tired :P
