How do you do this flash effect?

You might also try doing it in After Effects. That definitley works for the very complicated and custom shapes. Use the Vector Paint effect. Keep all assetts as vector files. However, I have not played with export from AE as an SWF, so it may all be for naught.

animated gif?
no...no... now that I look, it's masks in flash

sometimes you can't argue with a signed check though...

stewarts way is a good suggestion but make sure you only delete tiny amounts of detail at a time and that'll keep it smoooooth.
sometimes with joined-up handwriting you can just use one reveal-mask and slide it across the text to reveal it and it will look dececnt if done at the right (fast) speed

for a while there, every client I had saw the previous masking thing and wanted their logo animated in that way. It grew tiresome and I refuse to do it anymore.
- mrdobolina0
I agree, but the client is always an asshole nairn. :)

and slow, too - these things need to be over in less than 1.5 secs, imh'esto.

Mind-numbing labor.

*snip*
is it smoothe though, Stewart?
the one I'm doing was for a small ('LESS THAN'* 100px w) loading graphic.
i first started doing it with keyframes, breaking the graphic into chunks in illustrator, then bringing in to flash. the results were less than stellar, which is why i gave masks with mini-tweens a go - that worked, but drove me nuts (i hate flash).
* bloody code-stripping.

masking? whaha.
just start with a frame with the full image.
copy that frame and erasse the first parts.
copy again and erase the next parts.
etc etc till there's nothing left of your image and you'll have about 100 frames of animation.now the only thing you have to do is revert your timeline and done!
i can do this in about 20 minutes.

The way i do it is convert the copy to a image, then do a series of keyframes where you erase a bit of the type each frame, then reverse the frames.
It is a pain in the ass, and all those frames add to file size big time.

This swf isnt sized correctly and the background image isnt loaded in but you get the picture of what 39 layers can do.

No results found for "masking" v5?
what do you suggest he searches for, "how do i do this"?

(Jun 12 07, 10:19)in all honesty, yes, as that is the way the question is asked every time (you do however, present a valid point)

Bugger. i need to finish a wee one of these - started it a while ago, but got fed up with the **&^*&^ annoying masking in Flash. I'd assumed I was doing it stupidly.
Apparently not.
Bugger.
