I'd say listen to Ry Cooder. Great guitar player, he was a part of the Captain Beefhear Band, has did the soundtrack to 'Paris, Texas' and more recently did the whole 'Buena Vista' thing.
Okay, not strictly blues..but damn good.

Mick Taylor played great slide on The Rolling Stones album Get Yer Ya Yas Out.
The 1970s albums by Little Feat have great slide on them.
Also The Alman Brothers records almost always have great slide guitar on them. Derek Trucks is a great master at the trade.

John Lee Hooker is a good start. Try these as well, in no particular order, and more blues with some slide than slide blues players:
Albert Collins, Albert King, BB King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Gatemouth Brown, Robrt Johnson, Buddy Guy (my personal fav)
On the white boy side o' the blues check Johnny Winters, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Rory Gallagher, Roy Buchanan..
God so many...
