It must be a publicity stunt. That is just to bad to be for real...

what were Wolff Olins doing? I believe that external influences i.e. politcal big boys, had the final say in this design. Either way it's a shocker.....

D&Ad award for taking the piss with a client goes to... Wolf Ollins!

I just want to know what happened in the 4 years since they did the Athens one? was everybody off sick the day the bashed out the London logo?

It is probably one of the best assignments I could think of, and to see it solved like that, just breaks my heart...

Whilst I do have problems with some aspects of the logo, what phatlee posted is a major issue. I can see what they are trying to achieve albeit something different but something very vivid and appealing to the masses. I am gonna wait to see how the rest of it rolls out. I must say the execution is seriously lacking though.
Anyone see the Metro this morn. they re jigged it to make it look like someone sitting on the crapper

swimming against the current here.
All I am saying is people are very quick to slag it off and I think we should be more understanding of what Ollins were faced with. I cannot imagine the design team at Ollins said "Eureka, we've got it!!"

the appeal to the masses has clearly failed though hasn't it? as for the multiple application argument I've seen on here, the BB logo does that, but with a much stronger mark that is excecuted well.
I'm not feeling very sorry for Wolf Olins either, having been paid 400K for this, they can take all the instinct based slagging they get as far as I'm concerned.

I totally disagree with Coudal. He makes a good point about standing out, but in my opinion, you can do that a lot more clever than this...

In my previous job we pitched for it, and some of our early ideas, the ones that you wouldn't show anybody were better than that.
Their inspiration was from
and to me it makes me think an old art director designed it thinking this still appeals to 'the kids', but the Olympics just isn't for the young.

also, virtualy the only people I have heard defending it are design/advertising/marketing people, 'real' people would definitley respond to some of the concetual rhetoric behind it, but have been majorly turned off by the simple fact that it looks baffling at best and shit-poor at worst. For me this proves that you can talk as much as you want about what something means and what its attempting to do, but if you don't marry that to appropriate aesthetics its lost on most folk and fails.
