So I have a logo that I need to turn into a vectored image. But all I have to work with is a jpg. Right now I'm tracing that. But I feel like there must be a better way.
Anyone have any recommendations?

doh!

Hmmm... Live Trace = New to me ;) I'll give that a whirl and see what happens. Thanks Horton.
Oh and yes, total dork/n00b question. But thanks for answering :D

nah wasn't calling n00b.. just hoping you hadn't hand traced too far :)
for vectorizing, Live Trace is all and everything you need.

I've that live trace only works well when the image is nice and big - high res. If its a small image...it effs up.

using live trace to vectorize a company logo?
do that shit by hand, the quality will be much higher and likely what you are being paid for.
as an example, make a circle with a vector tool, most apps will give this circle 4 nodes evenly spaced with similar control points. export that circle as a jpg and live trace it back in and see what you get.
do your logo tracing by hand and see that it's done right

Well it's a brand, sort of. In baseball lettering. I was going to trace it by hand, but it's needed ASAP (by thursday).
I'm going to try a live trace and see what happens. So far i'm still trying to live trace properly.
Thanks for all your help everyone! And version5, i know exactly what you mean. It should be done by hand.

doh! back at myself..
gapped on the "logo" bit.. saw "jpeg" an thought photo.
as v5 draw by hand, can't be more than an hour's work?
- Gilt0010
Well the cursive baseball lettering with its nuances makes for some interesting paths. I am going to have to do this by hand though. It's gonna be more than an hour though.
Thanks again for your help everyone!

if its baseball lettering is there a font you could use or at least a similar one that would allow for some editing as opposed to starting from scratch?

live trace is not a viable solution for recreating a corporate identity.
Illustration path tools would be.
anyone here take a live traced logo to the printers?
Will not fly.
read about the path tools, and learn to do it, if you have chosen design as a path, then this will not be the last time.

i dont know..
laying a live trace will gt you more than started.. all you have to do then is clean it up
the problm is that too may ppl hit the live trace button and call it a day..
mot of the nodes will be roughly in place.. then just clean it up, delete superfluous nodes, re-round the paths and it will be safe

HOLY CRAP!! They already had an illustrator file hiding on an FTP server...GEEEEEZ!!!
