(May 31 07, 12:46)A year ago that might have been the case. I'm reknown around here for my loose temper and lack of edit. I try to maintain a sense of that but I've also learned how to play the game a little better. So while people around me (incl my manager oddly enough) are fuming and ready to yell, I stay level headed and try to ease people into agreement.
Thats not to say I didn't just tell one of the executive directors of a product we recently acquired that she can "have her optimistic notion that their product is going to change the face of IBM software and bring into our culture a radical new design and way of doing things but rest assured I've been down this road with bigger companies with similar ideas and they ended up right where I'm telling you to start heading else you're wasting your time."
A couple years ago I pointed right at the brand manager of our biggest products here and said rather heatedly "you have positively no idea what you are talking about and I'm not entertaining any more of your suggestions. You'll get your animation in a week and its up to you to use it"
Or another classic to a product exec: "you tell me you want an well designed engaging product that will generate buzz and you bring me this crap? My hand is forced so I'll make the graphics but I'll have you know you've done the exact opposite of your intentions."
And finally, my favorite to the woman who owned the ad agency in Abu Dhabi that I worked at who only knew how to tell me to "be more creative" and "I can't take this in front of clients": "fuck you, Fadya. If you don't like it then don't take it, I could give a shit what you do anymore."
She ended up taking the posters and the client ordered 6 more. Then she said she wasn't going to pay me what we agreed upon my last day there. So I told her she didn't have to pay me at all but I was taking a computer on my way out and she can come find me in the states to get it back. I got paid in cash 15 minutes later.
