every time i choose 'open' through any program it takes me to a root file that isn't intuitive .. where normally it would go to the last file i opened.
i must've set some preference or screwed up something along the way.
any ideas?

Finder - Settings - New Windows

hell yeah. sorted it out :)
it's kind of hidden but utilities has a lil app called 'directory access' .. you go in and check active directory.

erm..that has nothing at all to do with your problem.
"Using the Active Directory plug-in listed in Directory Access, you can configure Mac OS X to access basic user account information in an Active Directory domain on a Windows server."
You really could use Default Folder... I've used it since OS8 or something...brillliant for setting favorites, recent folders etc...although a 'recent folders' menu is now built into the Finder..

thank you, ribit. excellent idea.
discovered the problem seems to lie with the fact that i have both a cs2 application and some cs3 apps. my boss forgot to order indesign.
basically the trouble only comes about with cs3 ps and illy. must be a bug.
