Is it possible to make gradient text with css or html? I can never seem to find info on that in google.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say 'no' here.
I'm sure that, with enough effort and code there is some mighty bodge to fulfill your request, but thinking about the quantity of code required makes me dizzy.
If there were some way to use the content of layers as a mask for other layers, then yes. But I don't think there is.
Have a look for purely css rounded corners to get an idea of how complex pure-css/html code bodges can be.

..unless you massively-bodged sifr or used images for letters, that is.
That level of l33tness is way beyond my meagre ken.

Ok thanks, I thought there was a simple filter for it. :>

css alpha/opacity & z-indexing -voilà

Good call, V5 - I hadn't thought of doing bars of progressively lighter/darker background colours over the text.
Still, it's a little more complex than the hoped-for 'filter' :)

I've gotta say with maybe javascript?
I remember with yahoo msgr you could specify colors for "rainbow" text.
- version30
that would be per letter though right?
nairn, it would be hell to do too and would have so many problems as far as alignment, it' would be faster to make a trans .png of the text and move on

that's the stuff

i was thinking that too, justin- but it won't display across all browsers (insert IE flavor here), no?
- Nairn0
oh yeah.. ha ha - my example doesn't work at all well in IE, does it?
d'oh.
