One question I always ask is: What do you do in your free time?
This helps to give you a sense of whether this is just a job to them or if they're really passionate about what they're doing.
I find the "What sites do you visit" question to be hit or miss... it helps to be able to tell if they're connected you can kind of fake it on this one.

man, I hope you get a lot of "anything but graphic design" responses to that question ;D
